In partnership with Boise State University’s
Department of Public Policy and Administration
and the Coalition for Regional Public Transportation

When:

Tuesday, October 16, 2007
7:30 AM – approximately 12:00 Noon

Where:

Boise State University – Jordan Ballroom D

Why:

Every region of Idaho is facing unique transit needs as it looks at its transportation challenges. Community leaders and organizations from across Idaho’s Treasure Valley have rallied in support of providing transit alternatives to Idaho. Leaders around the state want to convene additional discussions about what is possible for Idaho. In support of this work and to keep public transit prominently placed on the public agenda, mayors across Idaho are convening a public policy forum on transportation issues in Idaho.

The goals of the Idaho Transit Summit are to learn from the challenges and successes of two of Idaho’s neighbors – Utah and Oregon, understand the situation facing Idaho’s various regions and discuss what financing options are available that would garner broad-based support throughout the state. The Summit will bring together local government officials from around the state, legislators, business leaders and others. The event is open to the general public.

The half-day event will include keynote addresses from leaders in two western states that have successfully developed alternative transportation options; and a panel discussion, among leaders representing Idaho’s many stakeholders, about possibilities in Idaho. There will also be time for audience comments and questions.
